Many people hesitate to own pets because they tend to bring fleas into their homes. This is what flea bites look like:
I have gathered some information from some real life experiences and these are some proven ways of how to get rid of fleas easily and effectively:
According to a pet groomer, fleas do not like citrus. You can spray anything that contains citrus such as air freshener or deodorizer in your home every couple of days until you get rid of the fleas completely.Concentrate on holes, cracks, crevices and between the wall and floor. Some people reported this worked in conjunction with flea treatment which their vet gave their pets.
Another easy method is to use 20 mule team borax. This can be found in the laundry section of your local supermarket.Sprinkle borax on areas infested by fleas, such as cracks, crevices, carpets and couches. After about 30 minutes, vaccum the borax. Borax contains boric acid which kills fleas by dehydrating them.It is suggested that you repeat this procees every six months to prevent the fleas from returning.
To get rid of fleas in your yard, you can get beneficial nematodes, which comes in the form of a blue sponge, from the nursery. Soak the blue sponge in water and spray it on your lawn. This effectively eradicates the fleas within 7 days. The good thing about beneficial nematodes is that is is safe for your children and pets; and they also get rid of other bad insects.
Another easy way to get rid of fleas in your yard is to use diatomaceous earth. This is a cheap, quick and effective way to get rid of fleas and is not harmful to your pets.
The use of dehumidifiers in conjunction with air conditioners and vacuumers can also help in your fight against fleas by interrupting their life cycle.Fleas thrive in high humidity. To hatch, flea eggs requires at least 70-75% humidity. Larvae can only survive with a minimum 50% humidity in the air. Fleas need at least 70° to 90°F (21° to 32°C) to survive. Hence, lowering the temperature can slow down or prevent flea survival.Studies show that vacuuming can suck up about 96% of full grown fleas. So, by combining these 3 methods, you can overcome your flea problems effectively.
It is important that you treat fleas in your house and pets simultaneously.Otherwise, your flea treatment will not be effective in getting rid of fleas totally from your pet and house.
